Kunduz rugs are handknotted in Kunduz and the surrounding villages of northern Afghanistan. The Kunduz rugs look similar to the Khal Mohammadi but are of better quality and a higher number of knots. The knotting is fine and neat, creating a very smooth and velvet-like pile. The color is often deep red, but other colors such as bright red, brown, copper and beige are also used. The designs are typically taken from old Turkamen designs where different Güls are used. Often the patterns are repeating themselves in all-over designs.
Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
